Introduction to the Computer Communication Architecture

What is a computer network?
Here you will learn about computer network architecture, physical design, logical topology, protocols, implementation, communication planning and basic communication techniques. In order to properly build, maintain and secure a network, you should first know what is a compute network and how the data travels through the wired or wireless network. To say a person with a good networking skills in a position that a network consisting of a computer, cable, PRI lines, routers, switches, network cards, telephone systems, TIS, fiber optic and Ethernet cables. A person who has a strong background in the data network must know that a network consists of a server, workstations, routers, hubs, WAN, LAN, fiber optic and Ethernet cables and devices. Both the telecommunications and data communications people agree that the wiring is an essential component of any computer network.
The simplest definition of the data network is to connect two computers together more computers to share data and resources. The network is available in different sizes and shapes, from home networks to wide area networks. Despite the different roles and different sizes of a network, you can design some general similarities in all networks, such as protocols, architecture and topology /.
Computer Network Architectures
Basically, computer network design (local area network) in three basic types such as LAN, MAN (Metropolitan Area Network) and WAN (Wide Area Network Division. A LAN can consist of two or more computers in the same room or building. Fiber or Ethernet cables are used to connect the computers in a LAN. home networks, office and personal networks are networks in LAN. A typical MAN consists of two or more computers at two different locations in the same city.
A man can be wired (fiber optic) or wireless, and a number of communication devices are used in a MAN. A WAN consists of two or more computers in two different geographical areas (different cities or countries) and there are several ways to turn the computer on a WAN such a connection as a leased line (ISDN lines, radio waves, microwaves, dial-up connections and connectivity through Satellite. The Internet is a WAN largest in the world. With the invention of wireless networks, mobile and optical technology, the use of the lines has been reduced. There are a number of conditions that describe the architecture of a network.
Computer Network Topologies
The topology or physical design is closely related to the architecture of a network.Topology defines how the network is physically connected. There are three main types of the topologies.• Star topology: In a star topology, all network components to the central office which is connected to a hub or switch. The star topology is mainly in use in the LAN.• Bus topology: In the bus topology of the network-connected components is the same cable. This is also called line or backbone.• Ring topology: In the ring topology, all components are connected together in the form of a ring. A token continuously through the loop.
Network Architecture Terminology
• CAN (Campus Area Network): CAN is a kind of a network that connects the building / office of a university, educational or office complex.• Intranet: Intranet is a private network belonging to an office, school or organization, and that is only accessible to authorized users.• Internet: The Internet is a network of networks connecting millions and charged each other of different designs.• MAN (Metropolitan Area Network) MAN is a kind of a network that is designed for a city.A MAN is larger than LAN but smaller than WANs.• SAN (Storage Area Network): a type of SAN is a network that can be used to connect the storage devices connected to RAID, file servers and tape systems.• VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network): VLAN is a kind of a network to communicate with the computer on separate physical networks as if they were connected to the same network allows.• Client-Server: Client-server is a type of networking, which is called dedicated systems, services, and the system that these services are called to preserve jobs. The main services include file, printer, scanner, CD, hard disk, processor, Internet connection and other services.• Peer-to-peer: This is a type of a network where each computer shares the same functionality. No central server is required in the peer-to-peer networks.
Computer network protocols and the OSI Model
Protocol is one of the most important components of a computer network. Protocol is a set of rules on the roads or a communication language understood by all computers and devices, agreed. A protocol defines error control how the data are sent and received, and transferring data between systems. There are a variety of protocols and the following is a list of the most commonly used protocol in the computer communications.• AppleTalk: AppleTalk is a communications protocol used by the system to Apple Macintosh computers, was developed to connect the printer.• Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM): ATM is a protocol type, in which data travels in the form of fixed size packets. The fixed rate packages offer a high speed, data security, video and voice communications over the same network.• DECnet: DECnet is a protocol that was developed by Digital Equipment system to connect the PDP and VAX systems.• Ethernet: Ethernet is a LAN protocol that was developed by Intel, Xerox, Digital Equipment and Systems. Ethernet is a most widely used LAN communication standard.• Fiber Distributed Data Interface (FDDI): FDDI is a protocol to transmit the data over the fiber optic cable.• Internet Protocol (IP): IP is a protocol for transferring data between the packet-switched IP networks, originally developed by the DOD (Department of Defense) was developed.TCP / IP (Transmission Control Protocol / Internet Protocol) is a suite of protocol and FTP, HTTP, e-mail, telnet, all IP protocols.• Internetwork Packet Exchange (IPX): IPX is a network protocol that is used by the Novell Netware operating systems.• NetWare: Netware is a LAN protocol developed by Novell Corporation.• Signaling System 7 (SS7): SS7 is a telecommunications protocol that was developed by the International Telecommunication Union is developing.• Systems Network Architecture (SNA) SNA is a set of protocols which was developed by the IBM mainframe systems developed.• Token Ring: Token Ring is a LAN protocol that was developed by IBM, in which systems have the token before they transfer the data. Transmission Control Protocol / Internet Protocol (TCP / IP): TCP / IP is a suite of protocols used to connect the computer on the Internet. TCP / IP is the most commonly used protocol.• X.25: X.25 is a protocol that was developed by the CCITT for packet-switched network.
Protocols are combined with the OSI model. OSI model is an ISO standard for the communication system. There are seven layers in the OSI model, and each layer performs the various functions. The seven layers are Application, Presentation, Session, Transport, Network, Data Link and Physical layers. Each layer know how to communicate with the upper and lower layer. You can change the names of all layers, to remember the following theorem.
"Everyone seems to need data processing"
Planning a Logical Network Design
If you plan a logical network design, you can either start from scratch or upgrade an existing network. You should provide sufficient information about the network components, hardware, protocols and topologies. You should analyze the traffic patterns, safety needs, future expansion and server capability, Internet access for its clients, FTP, and other things. You should also have a plan for disaster recovery, data recovery and instant troubleshooting techniques.
